SUCRALFATE
It is a basic aluminium salt of sulfated sucrose, inherently viscous in acidic medium, polymerizing into a sticky gel like consistency. It precipiates surface proteins at ulcer base & acts as acid resistant physical barrier preventing acid, pepsin & bile from coming in contact with the ulcer base.Duodenal & gastric ulcer, chronic gastritis, post-prandial reflux oesophagitis, bile reflux.
1 gm four times daily before meals for 4 wks.
Severe renal dysfunction, hypophosphataemia.
Hypophosphatemia, renal dysfunction, Interfres with absorption of tetracyclines, H2 block, phenytoin, digoxin quinolones. Paediatrics: Use with caution. Pregnancy: Safety not established. Lactation: Use with caution. Elderly: No special problem.
Dry mouth, nausea, constipation.
Reduce absorption of tetracyclines Phenytoin, Cimetidine, warfarin, avoid antacids within 30 minutes of Sucralfate.
