Tenofovir Alafenamide
Tenofovir is an antiviral medication belonging to the class of nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). It is primarily used in the treatment of HIV infection and chronic hepatitis B.Tenofovir is indicated for: -HIV infection: Used in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 17 kg. -Chronic hepatitis B: Used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus infection in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older.
-HIV infection: The recommended dose in adults and pediatric patients weighing at least 17 kg is Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg orally once daily, with or without food. -Chronic hepatitis B: The recommended dose in adults and pediatric patients 12 years of age and older is Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg orally once daily, with or without food.
Hypersensitivity to tenofovir or any component of the formulation.
-Renal impairment: Adjust dosage in patients with renal impairment. -Hepatitis B exacerbation: Monitor hepatic function in patients coinfected with hepatitis B virus during therapy discontinuation. -HIV resistance: Monitor patients with HIV-1 infection for emergence of resistant HIV-1 strains. -Bone effects: Consider monitoring bone mineral density in patients with a history of bone disease or at risk for osteoporosis.
Pain, fever, abdominal pain, back pain, asthenia, nausea, dyspepsia, vomiting, musculoskeletal arthralgia, myalgia, insomnia, dizziness, anxiety, skin and appendages rash event.
Tenofovir is generally a well tolerated medication with a low pill burden and demonstrates potent antiretroviral activity. These characteristics have led to its widespread use in clinical practice.
