Tetrahydrozoline

Tetrahydrozoline is a topical decongestant used primarily in eye drops to relieve redness and irritation caused by minor eye irritants. It works by constricting the blood vessels in the eyes, reducing redness.

Indications

-Relief of redness and irritation in the eyes due to minor irritants -Temporary relief of dry eyes


Dosage

-For adults and children over 6 years: 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) up to 4 times a day. -For children under 6 years: Consult a physician.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to tetrahydrozoline or any other ingredient in the formulation -Patients with glaucoma, especially narrow-angle glaucoma


Special Precautions

-Avoid use in case of infection of the eye (e.g., conjunctivitis) -Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, or diabetes -Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface to avoid contamination


Side Effects

-Temporary stinging or burning sensation in the eyes -Blurred vision -Dry eyes -Rarely, allergic reactions such as itching, redness, or swelling


Drug Interactions

-Avoid concurrent use with other eye medications unless advised by a healthcare provider -Consult a physician before using with systemic decongestants or other medications affecting blood pressure
