TIAGABINE

Tiagabine is used in combination with other medications to treat partial seizures. Tiagabine is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants.

Indications

Adjunctive treatment of partial seizures


Dosage

Oral; 5-45mg in two or three divided doses.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity.


Special Precautions

Paediatric : safety in Pregnancy: category C.Use if risk to fetus outweighs benefits. Lactation: Not known if secreted in milk


Side Effects

CNS depression, dizziness, nervousness, somnolence. Nausea, Diarrhoea, abdominal pain, tremor, weakness, chest pain, oedema, hypertension, palpitation, peripheral oedema, syncope, tachycardia, vasodilation, toxic epidermal necrolysis and stevens-johnson syndrome.


Drug Interactions

Increased sedation when used with other sedative drugs or ethanol. Valproate may increase free tiagabine levels. Concurrent use with CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase levels of tiagabine, CYP3A4 inducers may decrease levels of tiagabine.
