TRIFLURIDINE
(Opthalmic) Primary keratoconjunctivits and recurrent epithelial keratitis due to herpes simplex viruses.
Adult : Instill 1 drop of a 1% solution every 2hr up to a max 9times/day until complete re-epithelialization, then reduce to 1 drop every 4 hr when awake to a min of 5 drops/day for 7 days. Consider alternative therapy if there are no signs of improvement after 7 days or complete re-epithelialization has not occurred after 14 days.
Hypersensitivity.
Pregnancy (Category C): Child <6yr. Use under close supervision of ophthalmologist. Continuous administration>21 days to be avoided due to risk of ocular toxicity.
Transient burning or stinging upon instillation, irritation, hyperemia, palpebral edema, dry eye, superficial punctate keratopathy, epithelial keratopathy, hypersensitivity reaction an increased intraocular pressure.
