Triprolidine Hydrochloride is an antihistamine used to treat symptoms of allergic conditions such as rhinitis and urticaria. It works by blocking the effects of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.

Indications

-Allergic rhinitis -Urticaria (hives) -Allergic conjunctivitis -Seasonal allergies


Dosage

-Adults: Typically 2.5 to 5 mg every 4 to 6 hours, not to exceed 15 mg per day. -Children: Dosage should be adjusted based on age and weight; generally 1.25 mg to 2.5 mg every 4 to 6 hours.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to triprolidine or other antihistamines -Patients with severe liver disease -Glaucoma -Prostatic hypertrophy


Special Precautions

-Use with caution in patients with a history of asthma or bronchitis. -Avoid use in combination with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. -Caution in elderly patients due to the risk of sedation and dizziness.

-Drowsiness -Dizziness -Dry mouth -Nausea -Headache


Drug Interactions

-May interact with other central nervous system depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines). -Caution when used with other antihistamines to avoid overdose. -Possible interaction with medications that affect liver enzymes (e.g., CYP450 inhibitors).
