Vitamin K2

Vitamin K2, also known as menaquinone, is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a critical role in blood clotting, bone metabolism, and cardiovascular health. It is found in fermented foods and animal products and is also produced by gut bacteria.

Indications

-Osteoporosis -Cardiovascular health -Bone fractures -Osteoarthritis -Improvement of bone mineral density


Dosage

-Adults: 90-120 mcg per day -Osteoporosis or cardiovascular support: 45-100 mcg per day


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Vitamin K2 or any component of the formulation -Individuals on anticoagulant therapy, such as warfarin, should consult their healthcare provider before taking Vitamin K2


Special Precautions

-Patients with bleeding disorders should use Vitamin K2 under medical supervision -Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare provider before use Individuals with liver disease or who are at risk of blood clots should use caution


Side Effects

-Allergic reactions (rare) -Stomach upset -Diarrhea -Nausea -Unusual taste in the mouth


Drug Interactions

-Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) – Vitamin K2 may reduce the effectiveness of these medications -Antibiotics – Long-term use can reduce the production of Vitamin K2 by gut bacteria -Cholesterol-lowering medications – May interfere with Vitamin K absorption
