Doctors at Amrita Hopsital, Faridabad implanting Harmony TPV

Amrita Hospital, Faridabad Pioneers Revolutionary Pulmonary Valve Replacement Procedure

Amrita Hospital in Faridabad has achieved a significant milestone by successfully performing two pulmonary valve replacements using the Harmony Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve (TPV) system. This groundbreaking procedure marks the hospital as the first in India and Asia to utilize this advanced technology.

The surgeries, performed on a 42-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman, addressed their congenital heart condition known as Tetralogy of Fallot, which they had been battling since a young age. Tetralogy of Fallot necessitates the removal of the pulmonary valve to alleviate obstruction, leading to a leaking valve over time, which can pose serious health risks.

Both patients, after seeking initial consultations at their local healthcare facilities, were referred to Amrita Hospital's Cardiology department in Faridabad. Under the guidance of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, Head of Pediatric Cardiology, they underwent the innovative Harmony valve procedure to address their valve issues.

Dr. Radhakrishnan highlighted the prevalence of Tetralogy of Fallot and its life-threatening consequences, emphasizing the importance of corrective surgery. However, the development of fatigue and breathlessness due to a leaking pulmonary valve later in life necessitates further intervention.

The Harmony valve presents a revolutionary solution, offering valve replacement without invasive open-heart surgery. Dr. Sushil Azad, Principal Consultant of Pediatric Cardiology, described the minimally invasive procedure, which involves accessing the leg vein and deploying the preloaded valve at the targeted site, resulting in rapid recovery and minimal scarring.

Dr. Sanjeev Singh, Medical Director of Amrita Hospital, expressed pride in the hospital's achievement, stating their commitment to providing innovative treatments for congenital heart conditions. Both patients, delighted with their swift recovery and pain-free experience, underwent regular check-ups post-procedure, showcasing the success of this groundbreaking cardiac care approach.
