Over 34.7 Crore Ayushman Cards Issued, Parliament informed

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, announced that by June 30, 2024, more than 34.7 crore Ayushman cards have been issued under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). The scheme is now operational in 33 states and Union Territories, with the exceptions of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, West Bengal, and Odisha.


The scheme has approved a total of 7.37 crore hospital admissions, representing a financial authorization of Rs. 1 lakh crore. Detailed statistics on hospital admissions by state and Union Territory are available in the accompanying annexure.

Beneficiaries eligible for the scheme can create their Ayushman card at any time throughout the year. They can either use the Ayushman App or visit the nearest Common Service Centre (CSC) or empanelled hospital to obtain their card.

AB-PMJAY offers health coverage up to Rs. 5 lakhs per family annually for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization. The scheme aims to support approximately 55 crore individuals, accounting for the bottom 40% of India’s population. Beneficiaries can access cashless and paperless healthcare services at over 29,000 empanelled hospitals across the country. The latest Health Benefit Package under the scheme includes 1,949 procedures across 27 medical specialties, from General Medicine to Oncology.

State and Union Territory-specific details reveal a diverse distribution of Ayushman cards and hospital admissions. For instance, Andhra Pradesh has issued 155.67 lakh cards, while Uttar Pradesh has issued 511.16 lakh cards. In terms of hospital admissions, Tamil Nadu leads with 10,371,732 approvals, followed by Karnataka with 8,693,558 and Kerala with 6,265,298.
