Nadda Reviews Healthcare Projects in Assam, Inaugurates Key Initiatives

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda embarked on a significant visit to Assam today, inspecting key healthcare facilities and inaugurating new initiatives aimed at strengthening medical services in the region. His itinerary included the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) in Tezpur, Mangaldai District Civil Hospital in Darrang, and AIIMS Guwahati.

During his visit to LGBRIMH, Nadda inaugurated the institute’s newly established Library and Informatics Centre. Commending the institution’s progress, he emphasized the importance of adding super specialty departments to meet the healthcare demands of the Northeast and the rest of the country. Shri Nadda also participated in a Board of Governors meeting, where he was joined by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Health Minister Shri Ashok Singhal.

The Health Minister then traveled to Mangaldai District Civil Hospital in Darrang district, where he laid the foundation stone for a cutting-edge 50-bedded Critical Care Block (CCB). Funded with Rs 23.75 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), this facility is expected to revolutionize healthcare access by offering advanced medical services within the region.

During his time in Darrang, Shri Nadda also visited ongoing cancer care projects supported by Tata Trusts. Reflecting on the transformation of cancer treatment facilities in the state, he noted, “Earlier, people had to travel outside Assam for cancer treatment. Now, the residents of Darrang can access these services locally.”

The Health Minister was accompanied by a distinguished delegation, including Health Minister Shri Ashok Singhal, Education Minister Shri Keshab Mahanta, Minister of Power, Skill Development, and Medical Education Shri Prasanta Phukan, and Member of Parliament Shri Dilip Saikia.

The day concluded with a visit to AIIMS Guwahati, where Shri Nadda, alongside Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, reviewed the institute's progress. Shri Nadda planted a sapling on campus, symbolizing the institute’s commitment to growth and sustainability, and received an update on its ongoing projects from Dr. Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati, and senior members of the administration.

Nadda’s tour reflects the government’s dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure in Assam, ensuring access to quality medical services, and addressing the unique needs of the Northeast region. The initiatives inaugurated and reviewed during his visit are poised to make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of the people of Assam.
