National Immunisation Coverage Reaches 93.5% for 2023-24
Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, has reported a significant achievement in the country's immunization efforts. For the financial year 2023-24, the National Full Immunization coverage stands at 93.5%, according to the Health Management Information System.
Under the Universal Immunization Program, eligible children up to the age of 2 years receive vaccinations as per the established schedule. To address gaps and improve coverage, the government has implemented Mission Indradhanush and Intensified Mission Indradhanush. These special catch-up campaigns are conducted regularly to ensure that children and pregnant women in areas with low immunization coverage are vaccinated.
The government is also promoting the establishment of model immunization centers across States and Union Territories to streamline and enhance vaccination services. Currently, model immunization centers are operational in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and the Union Territories of Chandigarh and Ladakh. Additionally, immunization camps are organized based on state-specific needs.
State-wise coverage for the financial year 2023-24 varies, with some regions showing remarkable achievements. For instance, Delhi and Lakshadweep have reported coverage rates of 105.03% and 108.79%, respectively. In contrast, other areas, such as Nagaland and Puducherry, have lower coverage rates of 62.18% and 59.62%, respectively.
The full immunization coverage rates highlight the progress made in improving child health across the country, while also underscoring the need for continued efforts to address disparities in immunization coverage.
