Aster CMI Hospital Partners with Coal India to Provide Life-Saving Bone Marrow Transplants for Children with Thalassaemia and Aplastic Anaemia

In a groundbreaking initiative, Aster CMI Hospital has partnered with Coal India Ltd to offer life-saving bone marrow transplants (BMT) for children suffering from thalassaemia and aplastic anaemia. Supported by the Health Ministry of India, this collaboration will provide crucial financial assistance to patients through Coal India’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project.

As part of the initiative, Coal India Ltd has committed Rs. 3 crores over the next three years to fund these life-saving treatments. The project aims to assist around 300 patients, primarily from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, giving them access to advanced medical care at Aster CMI Hospital, which is empanelled under this initiative.

Dr. Somashekhar S P, Lead Consultant in Surgical and Gynaecological Oncology at Aster CMI Hospital, emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating, "Our Haematology-Oncology Department excels in complex surgeries and advanced treatments, and this partnership will allow us to expand our reach to more patients, especially those from weaker sections of society."

Dr. Stalin Ramprakash, Senior Consultant in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant, highlighted the urgent need for such initiatives: "Thalassemia and aplastic anaemia are life-threatening conditions where the bone marrow fails. Without proper treatment, the lifespan of most patients is drastically reduced, sometimes to less than a year. This collaboration enables us to offer curative BMT treatment to many more children, helping them lead the normal lives they deserve."

The partnership aligns with the vision of Aster DM Foundation, which focuses on improving the lives of underprivileged communities through healthcare outreach and education. Mr. SGS Lakshmanan, COO of Aster CMI Hospital, expressed confidence in the success of the initiative, noting that "with the support of skilled doctors and advanced technology, we will achieve the partnership’s objective of improving healthcare outcomes for these children."

Mr. Shri Vinay Ranjan, Director of Coal India Limited, praised the collaboration, stating, "We believe that this partnership with Aster CMI Hospital will significantly enhance the quality of life for our employees, their families, and others in need. By combining our resources, we can make a tangible difference."

This initiative represents a critical step in providing long-term, life-saving care to children born with these rare and life-threatening conditions, extending their lifespan and offering them the chance for a healthier, brighter future.
