ICMR Wins 2024 UN Inter-Agency Task Force Award for Advancing NCD and Mental Health Initiatives

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has been honored with the prestigious 2024 United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force Award for its significant contributions in advancing multi-sectoral action on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health. Union Health Minister J P Nadda announced the achievement on Wednesday, emphasizing ICMR’s impactful work in these critical areas.

The recognition celebrates ICMR’s pioneering efforts in assistive technology and its commitment to creating accessible, affordable, and sustainable solutions. These innovations aim to enhance the quality of life for individuals dealing with NCDs and mental health challenges across India. Among the council’s notable initiatives are the establishment of national centers for Assistive Health Technology, promotion of sustainable assistive products, and the organization of the world’s largest Assistive Technology (AT) survey.

“Delighted to share that ICMR has been honored with the prestigious 2024 @UN Inter-Agency Task Force Award for outstanding achievements in advancing multisectoral action on the prevention and control of NCDs, mental health, and the broader NCD-related SDGs,” Nadda said in a tweet.

This award underscores ICMR’s ongoing commitment to improving public health outcomes in India by addressing the growing burden of NCDs and mental health disorders through innovation and strategic collaboration.
