Fortis Memorial Research Institute Illuminates Qutub Minar in Pink to Mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In a symbolic gesture to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, has illuminated Delhi’s iconic monument, Qutub Minar, in pink. The historic structure will shine as a beacon of hope and resilience for three consecutive evenings, from October 4th to 6th, underscoring the critical importance of early screening, timely diagnosis, and effective treatment of breast cancer.

The initiative aims to remind the public—especially women over the age of 40—about the value of undergoing regular screenings, such as annual mammograms, which can significantly improve early detection and outcomes. Beyond being a visual spectacle, the illuminated Qutub Minar serves as a call to action for women to prioritize their health and stay vigilant against the disease.

Dr. Vedant Kabra, Principal Director, Department of Surgical Oncology, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, emphasized the growing concern of breast cancer in India. “Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Indian women, accounting for over 25% of all female cancers. While it was once predominantly diagnosed in women between the ages of 50 and 64, alarming trends over the past decade show that younger women, even in their 20s and 30s, are now increasingly being diagnosed with advanced stages of the disease. Early screening, therefore, is more important than ever.”

Mr. Yash Rawat, Facility Director, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram, added, “Qutub Minar, illuminated in pink, is not just a visual tribute. It stands as a beacon of awareness, urging women to prioritize their health through regular screenings. Through this initiative, we aim to inspire collective action towards breast cancer prevention and detection, and ultimately, save lives.”

The pink illumination of Qutub Minar reinforces Fortis Healthcare’s unwavering commitment to raising awareness, supporting survivors, and advocating for breast cancer education. By drawing attention to the increasing incidence of breast cancer among Indian women, Fortis hopes to encourage individuals and families to take proactive steps in the fight against this disease.

Fortis Memorial Research Institute’s campaign highlights the importance of education and empowerment for women, promoting early detection as the key to better outcomes. Through such initiatives, Fortis continues to stand at the forefront of advocating for breast health and ensuring access to world-class healthcare for all.

The Qutub Minar, lit up in shades of pink, symbolizes hope, survival, and the courage of those who have battled breast cancer, while also serving as a reminder that timely intervention can save lives.
