Apollo Cancer Centres Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Yoga Event, Inspiring Holistic Healing

Embracing the power of holistic wellness in cancer care, Apollo Cancer Centres (ACCs), through Apollo Athenia—India’s pioneering women’s health center—organized a Breast Cancer Awareness Yoga Event at Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri. Part of ACC’s #TalkPink campaign, the initiative aimed to promote yoga as a supportive practice in the fight against breast cancer, aligning with the organization’s commitment to integrating wellness with medical treatment.

Drawing over 800 participants, including 250 cancer patients and over 100 medical professionals, the event showcased the collective effort of survivors, doctors, and wellness advocates. It underscored the vital role of integrative wellness, such as yoga, in enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients, especially during recovery. The event not only heightened breast cancer awareness but also fostered a supportive environment for those affected by the disease.

H. E. Freddy Svane, Honorable Ambassador of Denmark to India, inaugurated the event as Chief Guest, noting the growing appreciation for holistic approaches to cancer care worldwide. "In Denmark, holistic health, including yoga, plays a significant role in enhancing physical and mental well-being in cancer care. I am inspired by Apollo Athenia's dedication to women’s health and breast cancer support. This gathering highlights our shared commitment to fostering communities of healing and hope through integrative healthcare,” he remarked.

The event’s highlight was a Chair Yoga session specifically curated for breast cancer patients and survivors, led by acclaimed yoga expert Sourabh Bothra. The session featured gentle poses and breathing exercises, focusing on flexibility, emotional well-being, and accelerated recovery for participants, many of whom expressed the therapeutic benefits of yoga during their cancer journey.

As breast cancer remains the most prevalent cancer among women globally—accounting for 23% of all cases and projected to exceed 2 million cases by 2030—such initiatives are increasingly critical, especially as cases surge in India's northeastern regions and metropolitan areas.

Dr. Geeta Kadayaprath, Senior Consultant in Breast Surgery at Apollo Cancer Centre, New Delhi, emphasized the event’s mission: “Our aim with this Chair Yoga event is to amplify the role of yoga in recovery and raise breast cancer awareness. At Apollo Women’s Cancer Centre, we are committed to world-class care that encompasses the entire healing journey. Today is a testament to strength, resilience, and community, inspiring early detection and holistic wellness practices for a healthier tomorrow.”

Ritu Kapoor, currently undergoing chemotherapy following her bilateral breast cancer surgery at Apollo Cancer Centres, shared her personal experience, saying, “Yoga has been my anchor. It has helped me find strength, calmness, and hope. This event is a reminder that I am not alone; healing encompasses nurturing my mind, body, and spirit. I am grateful to be part of this supportive community.”

The awareness event not only reflected ACC’s dedication to advancing cancer care but also reinforced the powerful impact of combining medical treatment with holistic practices, advocating for a future where wellness and recovery go hand-in-hand.
