Doctors’ Platform Alleges Irregularities in West Bengal Medical Council, CBI Chargesheet Reveals Corruption in RG Kar Hospital
The Joint Platform of Doctors (JPD) leveled serious allegations against the West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) and its operations during a joint press conference held Saturday at Kolkata Press Club by. The JPD asserted that attempts are under way to restore those linked to the divisive Abhaya case, a sad event sometimes referred to as "institutional murder."
According to Local media reports, fresh accusations against the healthcare system of the state, is fuelling discussions about responsibility and government.
Leading member of the physicians' movement, Dr. Utpal Banerjee underlined that the WBMC's responsibilities include verifying doctor eligibility to practice and looking at patient complaints. But the JPD's press release claimed that the present registrar's 2019 appointment was unconstitutional, so invalidating next council elections.
The platform also criticized the purported attempt to reinstate individuals who were accused of manipulating evidence in the Abhaya case, such as Avik De and Birupaksha Biswas. Another well-known leader, Dr. Subarna Goswami, voiced worries about what he called a "syndicate culture" in the state's healthcare system and accused WBMC of becoming a center of corruption.
"The same people engaged in the Abhaya case and encouraging a culture of threats in the healthcare sector are being returned under the council's control. Dr. Goswami added during the press conference that this indicates a contempt of government and responsibility.
Separately citing their involvement in a financial corruption case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) charged former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandeep Ghosh and others. The chargesheet claims illicit collusion between cartels and RG Kar Hospital in procurement operations.
In relation to the matter, the CBI has named people including former home staff member Ashish Pandey, businessman Biplab Sinha, Suman Hazra, and Afsar Ali Khan. However, the state government's failure to approve the necessary permission for court operations has prevented any action on the chargesheet.
The CBI spokesman said, "The charges relate to financial misbehaviour involving equipment purchase. Strong evidence notwithstanding, court processes cannot start without state sanction.
These disclosures have set public indignation over West Bengal's healthcare system back ablaze. Left-wing groups and activists contend that the state administration hides important offenders by fostering a culture of intimidation and stifling opposition.
The CBI's probe into the Abhaya case has drawn criticism for concentrating just on civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, therefore ignoring the claimed involvement of more powerful syndicated crime groups. Activists assert that the same network underlies the death of Abhaya as well as the corruption at RG Kar Hospital.
