Tears, Cheers, and Triumph: 483 MBBS Students Graduate from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University

The auditorium of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was alive with cheers, emotions, and proud smiles as hundreds gathered for the much-awaited Convocation Day — a day that marked the end of a challenging journey and the beginning of a new chapter for many.  Among the sea of graduates, 483 MBBS students received their degrees, a result of years of rigorous study, clinical training, and perseverance.

The event was graced by Delhi Lieutenant Governor and University Chancellor Vinai Kumar Saxena, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, University Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahesh Verma, and Education Minister Ashish Sood.  Addressing the young graduates, LG Saxena reminded them that true education shapes character. “Education should make a person warmer, not arrogant,” he said, urging students to remain grounded and compassionate as they step into society.  CM Rekha Gupta added to the day's excitement by announcing a major ₹500 crore allocation for the university's upcoming Narela campus — more than double the ₹200 crore initially requested.

The announcement was met with a standing ovation and heartfelt appreciation from both LG Saxena and Prof. Verma.  Education Minister Ashish Sood congratulated the graduates and offered a reality check wrapped in encouragement. “You have successfully passed one phase of life — your education,” he said. “But remember, life itself is another phase you must now navigate with wisdom, patience, and continued learning.”

Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahesh Verma, who has been at the forefront of the university’s academic and infrastructural transformation, reflected on the milestone with pride and hope. "We are not just conferring degrees today — we are shaping the future of  education. Our students are our ambassadors, and it is their compassion, knowledge, and integrity that will define the legacy of this institution," he said.

This year, the university conferred a total of 2,43,463 degrees, including 488 postgraduate degrees in MD/MS and Ayurveda Vachaspati, highlighting its growing impact in both academics and healthcare education.  Prof. Verma was widely praised for spearheading several initiatives — from upgrading facilities and introducing new courses to fostering global collaborations — paving the way for Indian and international students to access world-class education.

As the ceremony drew to a close, families embraced their loved ones, proud professors looked on with satisfaction, and students walked away with a mix of joy, nostalgia, and a sense of purpose. For these new graduates, Convocation Day was not just an end — it was a powerful beginning.
