Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has assured the Delhi Medical Association (DMA) that the medical fraternity will be taken into confidence while framing the rules of the newly enacted National Medical Commission Act.

A delegation of 100 members of DMA met Dr Vardhan, at Nirman Bhawan, New Delhi, to express their support for the NMC Act. “However, the DMA also demands that at the time of implementation of the NMC, issues like NEXT exam, Community Health Providers and capping of fee of private medical colleges should be taken care of and representation from DMA should be there while making rules regarding NMC,” said Dr Girish Tyagi, President, DMA.

“Dr Vardhan patiently heard the grievances of medical fraternity regarding some clauses of NMC Act and assured the DMA delegation that their points of objections shall be considered. He further said that while making the rules for NMC, medical fraternity shall be taken into confidence and also representation from DMA will be there in committee,” added Dr Tyagi.

Dr Vardhan was also apprised by the DMA about increasing cases of assaults on doctors across India. The DMA demanded that a Central Act on assaults on doctors should be implemented soon.

The DMA also raised concern over low rates of CGHS which have not been revised for so many years. “Dr Vardhan assured the DMA that government will soon introduce a Central Act on assaults on doctors and the matter regarding revision of CGHS rates will also be looked into,” said Dr Tyagi.
