OLMESARTAN

Olmesartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). By relaxing blood vessels, it helps to lower blood pressure and increase blood flow.

Indications

-Hypertension -Reduction of cardiovascular risk in patients with high blood pressure


Dosage

-Adult dose: Typically, 20 mg once daily. Depending on the patient's response, the dose may be increased to 40 mg once daily. -Pediatric dose: Not recommended for children under 6 years. Dosage varies for children aged 6-16 based on weight.


Contra-Indications

-Hypersensitivity to Olmesartan or any of its components -Pregnancy (second and third trimesters) -Severe renal impairment -Biliary obstruction


Special Precautions

-Monitor renal function periodically in patients with renal impairment. -Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment or biliary obstructive disorders. -Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. -Monitor blood pressure regularly.


Side Effects

-Common: Dizziness, headache, and back pain -Serious: Kidney problems, high potassium levels, severe allergic reactions, and low blood pressure


Drug Interactions

-Potassium-sparing diuretics -Potassium supplements or salt substitutes -Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) -Lithium -Other antihypertensive agents
