Pepsin
Pepsin is a proteolytic enzyme that is produced in the stomach and is responsible for breaking down proteins into smaller peptides. It is secreted by the chief cells in the stomach lining as an inactive zymogen called pepsinogen, which is then activated to pepsin by the acidic environment in the stomach.-Treating digestive disorders -Assisting in protein digestion in patients with low stomach acid -Used as a digestive aid in cases of indigestion, heartburn, and bloating
The dosage of pepsin can vary depending on the formulation and the condition being treated. It is often taken with meals. Always follow the healthcare provider's instructions or the manufacturer's guidelines.
-Hypersensitivity to pepsin or any component of the formulation -Peptic ulcer disease
-Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders -Avoid use in individuals with active gastrointestinal bleeding -Not recommended for use in children unless prescribed by a healthcare provider
-Nausea -Abdominal pain -Diarrhea -Allergic reactions (rare)
-Antacids and other medications that reduce stomach acid, as they may reduce the effectiveness of pepsin -Certain medications that are protein-based, potentially altering their breakdown and absorption
