TINIDAZOLE
Its metabolism is slower than metronidazole but duration of action is longer, thus it is more suited for once daily therapy.Amoebiasis, Trichomoniasis and giardiasis, anaerobic infection.
Amoebiasis: 2 gm for 2-3 days (children 30 -50 mg/kg/day) or 600 mg twice daily for 5 days. Giardiasis: 2 gm as single dose or 600 mg O.D for 7 days. Anaerobic infections: prophylactic-2gm single dose before colorectal surgery: therapeutic 2 gm followed by 0.5 gm BD for 5 days.
1st trimester of pregnancy. Blood dyscrasias. Lactation.Neurological disorder.
Pregnancy, anticoagulants, avoid alcohol intake.
Metallic taste, furred tongue, G.I discomfort. Dark urine. Neuropathy and epileptiform seizures. Urticaria, leucopenia, angioedema.
Disulfiram like reaction with alcohol. Synergism with ampicillin, doxycycline and co-trimoxazole.
