Kailash Deepak Hospital to Launch State-of-the-Art Cancer Centre
Delhi’s Kailash Deepak Hospital is set to inaugurate a state-of-the-art cancer centre aimed at providing comprehensive cancer treatment to patients. This new facility will offer services in medical oncology, radiation therapy, surgical oncology, and nuclear medicine. Initially, the hospital has made PET scan services functional, marking the first step in its phased rollout.
Timely detection and treatment are crucial for effective cancer care. Unfortunately, due to a lack of awareness, many cancer cases in India are diagnosed at advanced stages, leading to high mortality rates. The impact of cancer extends beyond the patient, affecting families financially, emotionally, and mentally. The establishment of a comprehensive cancer centre at Kailash Deepak Hospital will provide much-needed access to quality care for patients in Delhi and nearby areas.
Dr. Rahul Singh, Consultant in Radiation Oncology at Kailash Deepak Hospital, emphasised the advancements in cancer treatment. "Cancer is curable and treatable if detected early. There have been significant advancements in cancer care. It is vital to be aware of cancer symptoms such as breathlessness, unexplained weight loss, difficulty in swallowing, and lumps in any part of the body. Early diagnosis and timely treatment can save lives."
Radiation therapy plays a pivotal role in cancer treatment by shrinking and killing cancer cells. "Some cancers can be treated solely with radiation, while others require a combination of surgery and radiation therapy," explained Dr. Singh. "We have installed the Varian Halcyon machine, one of the best in the world, offering advanced radiation therapies such as IGRT, IMRT, SRS, VMAT, and SBRT. These services will be available from August 15, 2024."
Dr. Ajay Vyas, Director of Nuclear Medicine, highlighted the role of nuclear medicine in cancer care. "Nuclear medicine includes diagnostic tests and targeted therapies. The most common diagnostic test is the PET-CT scan, which helps determine whether cancer is at an early or advanced stage. Our centre will treat various cancers, including breast, lung, lymphoma, and liver cancer."
Consultant Medical Oncologist Dr. Pallavi Redhu spoke about the importance of recognizing cancer symptoms. "Non-healing sores, persistent lumps, unexplained vaginal or rectal bleeding, and uncontrolled weight loss can all be indicators of cancer. Early detection and prompt medical attention are crucial."
The opening of the cancer centre at Kailash Deepak Hospital is a significant development for cancer care in Delhi, providing patients with access to cutting-edge treatments and improving their chances of recovery.
