Rajasthan Government Bans Gifts for Blood Donors, Licenses to be Revoked for Non-Compliance

In a bold step to eliminate unethical activities in blood donation camps, the Rajasthan government has prohibited donors from receiving gifts in exchange for blood. The Food Safety and Drug Control Authority has issued a stern order warning that any institution found in violation of this law will face serious repercussions, including the suspension or cancellation of their blood centre licenses.

The Commissioner of Food Safety and Drugs and the Controller General of India have issued a directive to ensure that blood donation remains a voluntary and selfless act, according to media sources. State Drug Controller Ajay Pathak has issued a circular to all assistant drug control officers and blood facilities, stating unequivocally that distributing gifts such as helmets, blankets, thermos flasks, tracksuits, bags, watches, and similar products to entice donors is totally prohibited.

"All blood centers must ensure that no gift-giving occurs in collaboration with any organization or organizer," Pathak insists. "Do not entice donors with material incentives during blood drives. Violations will result in the blood center's license being suspended or canceled. This robust approach demonstrates the government's commitment to upholding the integrity of blood donation standards.

Assistant Drugs Controller Mahendra Singh Shekhawat announced that "HQ has received instructions to prevent this malpractice." We will now include these conditions in all permissions granted."

According to local media sources, Gopal Vijayvargiya, Secretary of the Sahyog Sevarth Foundation and founder of the Har Panchayat Rakt Panchayat Abhiyan, has expressed strong support for the new direction. He remarked, "We applaud the government's decision to prohibit the offer of any kind of gift in exchange for blood donation in camps." This will ensure that blood donation is a selfless act."

This guideline is a critical step toward ensuring that blood donation camps adhere to transparency and ethical standards, keeping the noble intent underlying the act of donating blood.
