Granules India Appoints Ovais Sarmad as Advisor to Strengthen Sustainability Efforts
Granules India Limited has announced the appointment of Mr. Ovais Sarmad as an advisor to strengthen its sustainability and climate strategies. With over three decades of experience in global climate policy, Mr. Sarmad is well-positioned to provide strategic direction in improving Granules' environmental initiatives.
Widely recognised for his expertise, Mr. Sarmad previously served as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) from 2017 to 2023. During his term, he was instrumental in completing the Paris Agreement's implementation instructions, finalizing Article 6 at the Glasgow Climate Summit, and establishing the Loss and Damage Fund at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh. His significant expertise includes key positions at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), where he oversaw resources and served as chief of staff from 1990 until 2017. He is currently the Vice Chair of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Steering Committee, where he helps to coordinate global efforts to quantify and reduce carbon.
Granules India plans to use Mr. Sarmad's extensive experience to negotiate the issues of climate action and corporate responsibility. "Mr. Sarmad's deep knowledge in global climate policy and his leadership in key international agreements will be instrumental in guiding our sustainability strategy," according to a corporate representative.
