Delhi Kicks Off Ambitious "100-Day TB Campaign" to Combat Tuberculosis
Delhi took a significant step forward in the fight against tuberculosis (TB) with the state-level launch of the "100-Day TB Campaign" under the "TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan" at the Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis (RBIPMT), GTB Nagar. The event, aimed at accelerating efforts to eliminate TB, was inaugurated by Danish Ashraf, IAS, Mission Director of the Delhi State Health Mission.
The ceremony was attended by prominent officials, including Pankaj Naresh Agarwal, Additional Commissioner (Health), MCD; Dr. Vandana Bagga, DGHS, GNCT Delhi; Dr. Mansi Anand, Director of RBIPMT; and Dr. Nilesh Saini, State Program Officer for the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP).
Nationwide Focus on TB Eradication
The launch was broadcast live across the country, symbolizing a collective resolve to eliminate TB. Highlighting the mission-mode approach, the initiative underscores the government's commitment to reducing the socio-economic burden of the disease.
"The elimination of tuberculosis is not just a health goal; it is a national priority," said Ashraf during the event. He emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious goal of making India TB-free by 2025.
Innovative Measures to Boost Detection
As part of the campaign, Ashraf flagged off three Nikshay vehicles, mobile units equipped with comprehensive testing facilities to aid early detection and enhance public awareness about TB. These vehicles will conduct door-to-door campaigns, offering intensive screening and support services in the community.
Collaborative Efforts Driving Change
Dr. Ninglang Tale, District TB Officer of Kingsway Chest Center, spearheaded the event's management alongside his team. The campaign aims to inspire community participation, raise awareness, and promote early diagnosis and treatment in line with the National Strategic Plan to eliminate TB by 2025.
Parallel Launch in East Delhi
A parallel event was held at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chest Hospital, Patparganj, where East Delhi District Magistrate Amol Srivastava inaugurated the campaign by lighting a ceremonial lamp. Ward Councillor Renu Chaudhary launched the Munadi awareness drive during the program, which was conducted by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Madhu Chandra Pandey.
