Innovation Key to Enhancing India's Pharma Export Value: Prof. Ravichandiran

The Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU), in collaboration with the DPSRU Innovation and Incubation Foundation (DIIF), conducted an international conference that focused on industry innovation and commercialisation. The event aimed to establish a connection between academia and industry by highlighting the significance of nurturing innovation in drug research and encouraging entrepreneurship. The conference featured a notable moment with the opening speech by Professor Ravichandiran V., vice chancellor of DPSRU and chairman of DIIF, who articulated the institution’s vision for a future driven by innovation and wisdom.

In his address, Professor Ravichandiran expressed a thorough acknowledgement of the university’s dedication to improving academic and research initiatives. "I am genuinely pleased and privileged to participate on this occasion at Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University's Innovation Program, which focuses on advancing academic endeavors with a strong emphasis on knowledge and innovation," he stated.  He highlighted the university's obligation to motivate its scholars, stressing the careful structuring of their programs to cultivate intellectual and innovative skills.

Prof. Ravichandiran  consistently emphasized India's significant transformation over the past thirty years—transitioning from a pharmaceutical importer to a leading global hub for drug production. He acknowledged the achievements of the nation while also emphasizing the necessity of improving the value of exports.  “The primary challenge ahead is to increase the value of our pharmaceutical exports via innovation, particularly given our current leadership in volume,” he stated. This appeal for value enhancement signifies a profound desire to advance Indian pharmaceutical products from simple volume to the realm of significant innovation.

The Vice-Chancellor articulated that a primary objective of the conference is to enhance employability and promote entrepreneurship. “The goal for today is to improve employability and entrepreneurship, establishing India as a competitive entity in the global market while maintaining sustainability and consistency,” he stated. The statement underscores DPSRU’s commitment to synchronizing its academic goals with the overarching national vision for economic growth by emphasizing both individual development and collective progress.

The emphasis on collaboration emerged as a critical component of Professor Ravichandiran’s speech. He urged policymakers, academic institutions, and the pharmaceutical industry to work together in promoting innovation. “Encouraging collaboration among policy partners, institutions, and industry is crucial for enhancing and driving innovation,” he asserted. His vision extends well beyond the boundaries of DPSRU, advocating for a holistic approach in which collaboration among various stakeholders acts as the catalyst for progress.

Emphasizing the significance of technical expertise in the realm of pharmaceutical sciences, Professor Ravichandiran said,  “Understanding both asset systems and test systems will significantly improve your skills as a scientist and contribute to notable recognition in your field,” he advised the participants. His remarks underscore the institution’s dedication to equipping students and researchers with a comprehensive understanding that integrates theory and practice, thereby preparing them for success in a competitive global environment.

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the significant importance of startups and the entrepreneurial culture in India's aspirations for global leadership. The Vice-Chancellor connected this principle to the broader goals of the nation's leadership. “The culture of startups and entrepreneurship significantly contributes to India's standing in the global arena, embodying the vision articulated by our esteemed Prime Minister,” he stated. DPSRU focuses on fostering innovation-driven enterprises, aiming to make a substantial impact on the startup ecosystem, which is essential for India's economic development.

The conference functioned as an opportunity beyond mere academic discussion; it allowed participants to engage with practical knowledge and strategic insights. Professor Ravichandran emphasized the importance of focusing on the essential insights derived from the discussions.  He emphasised that participants should understand at least one concept or system from today's discussions, carefully designed to address real-world challenges. This statement effectively encapsulated the core of the event, encouraging both scholars and professionals to implement the knowledge gained in practical, real-world contexts.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed sincere gratitude to all individuals who played a role in ensuring the event's success during his closing remarks. "I express my gratitude to the organizers, speakers, and participants for their contributions to this event, and I urge everyone to critically engage with the ideas presented," he concluded. His words expressed sincere appreciation for the collaboration and a genuine aspiration for significant outcomes from the conference.

The DPSRU International Conference highlights the institution's commitment to academic rigor, innovative practices, and strategic partnerships with industry stakeholders.  DPSRU is dedicated to enhancing its position as a leader in pharmaceutical sciences and research through initiatives such as this while also contributing to the nation's goal of becoming a global innovation powerhouse.
