Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Celebrates 25 Years with a New Health Center to Support Its Growing Community

There’s something special about a milestone anniversary, and when it’s 25 years, the excitement is even more palpable. Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IP University) in Delhi on December 12, 2024, celebrated its 25th anniversary, and the atmosphere was filled with pride, joy, and a shared sense of accomplishment. It wasn’t just a typical anniversary celebration; this was a moment to reflect on the university’s journey and look ahead to an even brighter future.

At the heart of the celebration were two notable figures—Chancellor Lieutenant Governor Vinai Saxena and Vice Chancellor Prof. Mahesh Verma—who expressed their satisfaction and pride in the institution’s growth over the years. But what really stood out was the unveiling of the University Health Center, a new initiative that promises to change the way students, staff, and faculty access healthcare on campus.

Speaking with Drug Today Medical Times on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Verma shared how important it was for the university to not only focus on academics but also ensure that the health of its community was prioritized. “Health is an integral part of university life. In the past, we had to send students and staff to external hospitals for treatment, but now, with our new Health Center, everything is available right here on campus,” he explained.

The new facility is far from just a place for first aid; it’s a comprehensive healthcare service, complete with a full-time medical officer, nursing staff, psychologist, gynecologist, physiotherapist, physician, and surgeon. The center is designed to cater to a wide range of medical needs, offering everything from mental health support to physical treatment. Plus, the addition of an ambulance ensures that any medical emergencies can be quickly addressed, with the option to transfer patients to other hospitals if necessary.

The energy at the Dwarka campus was electric as the university’s staff gathered, eager to contribute to the continued growth and success of IP University. There was a shared commitment to making the university more accessible, offering more diverse courses, and forming deeper collaborations with both national and international institutions.

Addressing the gathering, Lt. Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, highlighted that the university has become a beacon of hope for students and a hub for pioneering academic initiatives. Saxena commended the university’s efforts toward creating global partnerships and emphasized the importance of prioritizing societal welfare and the Indian Knowledge System. Quoting from the life of Guru Gobind Singh, he encouraged students to embrace values of wisdom, courage, and justice.

Prof. Mahesh Verma further emphasized the remarkable growth of the university, which now offers 190 academic programs across 40 disciplines to over 1.13 lakh students. He proudly announced the university’s latest initiatives, including the sports quota, single-girl child seats, vice-chancellor internship program, and an incubation fund to promote innovation.

Additionally, the university’s newly launched Dual Degree program with AGH University of Krakow provides students with the unique opportunity to study two semesters in Poland and two semesters in India. What sets this program apart is that students will only pay the Indian fee for the entire course, making international education more accessible than ever before.

As IP University marks this significant milestone, it’s clear that the next 25 years will be even more exciting, with a stronger focus on student well-being, academic excellence, and global engagement. It’s a new chapter in a journey that’s just getting started.
