Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh – In a momentous occasion for the medical fraternity, the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, graced the first convocation ceremony of AIIMS Mangalagiri on December 17, 2024. Addressing the inaugural batch of MBBS graduates, she emphasized their pivotal role as the institute's first ambassadors in shaping its identity and reputation.

“The initial batch of any higher education institute creates the identity of that institute,” President Murmu remarked, underscoring the graduates' responsibility to represent AIIMS Mangalagiri in the medical fraternity, society, and even on the global stage.

A Call for Service, Learning, and Research

In her speech, President Murmu reflected on the nobility of the medical profession, highlighting its essence as a path to serving humanity. She urged the newly minted doctors to prioritize three key orientations—service, learning, and research—to achieve success and respect in their careers.

Advising the graduates to balance fame and fortune, she noted, “If you have to choose between fame and fortune, give priority to fame.”

India’s Global Standing in Healthcare

Acknowledging the global acclaim earned by Indian doctors, President Murmu praised their talent and hard work, which have secured them leading positions in developed countries. She also lauded India’s growing prominence in medical tourism, citing the country’s affordable and high-quality healthcare services.

“People from other countries visit India to take advantage of the medical facilities available here. India is emerging as a major center for affordable medical tourism, and doctors play a crucial role in this development,” she said.

Holistic Health and AIIMS Mangalagiri’s Mission

Reflecting on India’s cultural heritage, President Murmu noted that the interconnectedness of life and health has long been a cornerstone of Indian tradition. She expressed satisfaction with AIIMS Mangalagiri’s motto, Sakal Swasthya Sarvada—healthcare for all—emphasizing its alignment with the ideals of holistic health.

“The relentless promotion of holistic health and ensuring health for all should be the guiding principle of every medical professional at this institute,” she said, encouraging the graduates to embody these ideals throughout their careers.

Pioneering Research and Innovation

President Murmu also highlighted the evolving challenges in medical science and the need for innovative solutions. She applauded AIIMS Mangalagiri’s establishment of the Cytogenetics Laboratory, describing it as a significant step towards advancing medical research and treatment options.

“I am confident that this institute will develop new research and treatments by leveraging this laboratory,” she remarked, expressing optimism for the institute’s role in addressing future healthcare challenges.
