Delhi High Court Judge Pledges to Donate Organs, Advocates for Awareness

In a heartfelt move to champion the cause of organ donation, Delhi High Court Judge Justice Girish Kathpalia has pledged to donate his organs at Delhi AIIMS. Marking his birthday with this noble gesture, Justice Kathpalia visited the Organ Retrieval Banking Organization (ORBO) at AIIMS alongside his brother, Dr. Ish Kathpalia, to formalise his decision.

The judge’s pledge is a powerful statement in a country where organ donation rates remain critically low despite extensive efforts by the government to promote awareness. Speaking about his decision, Justice Kathpalia described organ donation as “the greatest gift one can give,” emphasizing its potential to create an eternal legacy of love and hope.

“I encourage everyone to join this mission and help bridge the gap between life and death for those in need. Reusing precious human organs can give life to many,” he said, urging people to come forward and contribute to the cause of organ and tissue donation.

The visit to ORBO and Justice Kathpalia’s public commitment highlight the urgent need to increase awareness about organ donation in India. Despite advancements in medical science and successful organ transplantation programs, the number of donors remains insufficient to meet the growing demand. Justice Kathpalia’s initiative aims to inspire others to take up this life-saving cause and address the chronic shortfall in organ availability.

Organ donation has the potential to save multiple lives, providing critical organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys, and lungs to patients suffering from end-stage organ failure. The judge’s advocacy serves as a reminder of the transformative impact of organ donation, both for recipients and their families.

With this pledge, Justice Kathpalia not only celebrates his birthday with purpose but also sets an example of how individuals can contribute to a larger societal change. His commitment is a clarion call for others to consider organ donation as a means to give the ultimate gift of life.
