Agilus Diagnostics Introduces Illumina NovaSeq X to Boost Genomic Testing and Multi-Omic Capabilities in India
Agilus Diagnostics, one of India’s largest diagnostic networks and a subsidiary of Fortis Healthcare Ltd., has strengthened the country’s next-generation sequencing (NGS) infrastructure with the installation of the Illumina NovaSeq X at its Mumbai reference laboratory. The move is expected to significantly enhance India’s capacity for large-scale genomic and multi-omic testing, enabling faster and more precise clinical insights.
The launch event was attended by Dr. Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, Managing Director and CEO of Fortis Healthcare; Dr. Anand K., Managing Director and CEO of Agilus Diagnostics; and Mr. Deepak Narang, Chief Operating Officer of Agilus Diagnostics.
Genomic technologies are increasingly shaping modern healthcare by enabling early diagnosis, improved disease characterization, and personalized treatment strategies. Applications now span rare and inherited disorders, reproductive and maternal health, pharmacogenomics, infectious disease surveillance, oncology, and population-scale genome programs.
With the addition of the NovaSeq X, Agilus Diagnostics significantly expands its molecular testing capabilities. The high-throughput platform supports whole exome sequencing (WES), whole genome sequencing (WGS), and advanced multi-omic analysis, delivering high-resolution results with faster turnaround times. Designed for clinical decision-making rather than research alone, the system provides clinicians with actionable molecular insights to guide patient care.
Through Agilus’ extensive nationwide network, these advanced genomic capabilities will be accessible not only in major metropolitan centers but also in emerging markets across India.
Commenting on the development, Dr. Ashutosh Raghuvanshi said, “Integrating advanced platforms like the Illumina NovaSeq X into clinical diagnostics is a pivotal step for India’s healthcare ecosystem. High-quality molecular insights are critical not just for oncology, but also for rare disease diagnosis, targeted therapies, and the advancement of personalized and preventive care. Agilus’ investment brings cutting-edge science closer to patients and empowers clinicians to improve outcomes across a wide range of conditions.”
Dr. Anand K. highlighted the broader vision behind the investment, stating, “The NovaSeq X marks a major milestone in our precision diagnostics journey. It significantly strengthens our multi-omic capabilities across genomics and proteomics, enabling faster and more detailed insights that support personalized medicine. This advancement moves us closer to delivering predictive and truly individualized care for patients across India.”
For clinicians and researchers, the enhanced sequencing capacity enables comprehensive variant detection, genetic evaluation of rare and inherited disorders, reproductive and prenatal testing, pharmacogenomic profiling for optimized drug response, infectious disease sequencing for pathogen tracking and antimicrobial resistance, and liquid biopsy-based analyses for longitudinal disease monitoring.
The NovaSeq X will also support Agilus’ expanding portfolio of advanced diagnostic assays, including proprietary liquid biopsy panels, rare disease workflows, reproductive genomics, pharmacogenomics, infectious disease sequencing, and integrated multi-omic studies. By embedding these outputs into established clinical pathways, Agilus aims to translate complex molecular data into clear, clinically actionable reports.
With this investment, Agilus Diagnostics positions itself among a select group of providers prepared for the next phase of precision medicine in India—encompassing population genomics, proteomic innovation, and long-term patient monitoring—while ensuring advanced diagnostics remain scalable, clinically relevant, and accessible nationwide.
