A New Hope for East Delhi: LBS Hospital’s Big Expansion to Bring More Beds, Better Care Closer to People
For thousands of families living in East Delhi and nearby areas, a new chapter in healthcare is about to begin. The iconic Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital (LBSH) in Khichripur is getting a major makeover, with a grand new building that promises more space, more beds and better medical facilities for patients.
The newly built hospital block, which has a modern look similar to a five-star facility, is expected to become a major healthcare centre for people living in Kalyanpuri, Trilokpuri, Vinod Nagar, Patparganj and even nearby Khoda Colony in Uttar Pradesh.
Spread across nine floors, the new building will add 460 beds to the hospital. With the existing 100 beds, the hospital’s total capacity will increase to 560 beds, providing much-needed relief to patients who often struggle to find beds during emergencies and peak times.
The expansion comes as a big boost for one of the most densely populated parts of Delhi, where the demand for affordable government healthcare has been increasing steadily.
Dr Akhilesh Verma, Medical Superintendent of Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, said the work on the new building is nearing completion and preparations are underway to make it fully functional.
“The building will be completed soon. Along with the infrastructure, manpower and other healthcare facilities will also be strengthened. The date for the inauguration of the new building is yet to be announced by the Delhi government,” Dr Verma said.
The new facility is expected to improve patient care by increasing bed availability and strengthening medical services under one roof. For residents of East Delhi, this expansion brings the hope of getting quality healthcare closer to their homes without having to travel long distances to other hospitals.
Once operational, the expanded Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital is likely to play a crucial role in meeting the healthcare needs of a rapidly growing population and easing pressure on other government hospitals in the city.
