Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed expansion of Ayushman Bharat scheme to more than 1.60 lakh health and wellness centres.

It may be noted that recently the government has completed the setting up of 1.60 lakh health and wellness centers.

Sharing a tweet by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Modi said, “Our efforts to ensure top quality and affordable healthcare for the poor continue to gain momentum.”

The Ayushman Bharat Scheme has two components. First includes provision of free treatment up to 5 lakh to Ayushman Bharat card holders.

This scheme is a national public health insurance scheme of the Government of India that aims to provide free access to health insurance coverage for low income earners in the country. It is learned that roughly, the bottom 50% of the country qualifies for this scheme.

The other component of the scheme includes providing preventive health checkup in health and wellness centers. The health and wellness centers have been set up across the country.
