IMA JDN to Hold Nationwide Candle March to Draw Attention Towards Challenging Reality of Resident doctors'

The Indian Medical Association Junior Doctors Network (IMA JDN) has planned a candle march throughout the country to raise awareness of the challenging working conditions faced by medical trainees after the tragic death of Dr Divesh Garg, a first-year paediatric postgraduate student at SGRR Medical College in Dehradun.

Doctors allege that Dr. Garg's department mistreated him, and the harsh, long hours he was made to work contributed to his death.

As condolences poured in, including from Dr. Jyothi R., Convenor of the IMA JDN Standing Committee, and Dr. R.V. Asokan, National President of IMA, the junior doctors across the country were demanding strict actions.

Given Dr. Garg's dying circumstances, the IMA JDN recommends quick action to stop similar tragedies in the future.

IMA JDN has urged medical students and residents to plan marches at their individual medical schools and hospitals throughout the country.

"Anyone who can't make it in person is welcome to light candles at home, take pictures, and post them on social media. Spreading the message are the hashtags #justiceforivesh and #savethesaviors, along with the names of Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Prime Minister Narendra Modi," it said.

IMA JDN has requested the National Medical Commission (NMC) to put into place a number of rules, such as controlled work hours, a required day off per week, and the removal of residence restrictions for doctors in college dorms. They are also demanding a thorough inquiry into the events surrounding Dr. Garg's death and changes to guarantee the safety of future medical professionals.

Chairman Dr. K. M. Abul Hasan and National Secretary General Dr. Shankul Dwivedi of the IMA JDN have underlined the need for physicians to work together to address these enduring problems.

They stated that everyone has to cooperate in order to stop future disasters and make their current condition better.
