Collaborative Approaches for Strengthening Global Healthcare: Insights from HEAL-Thy Samvad

In a post-pandemic world, healthcare has emerged as a focal point of attention. The inaugural session of HEAL-Thy Samvad recently convened healthcare experts, policymakers, and a representative from Nigeria, a significant partner in the Global South, to discuss collaborative approaches towards strengthening the global healthcare infrastructure. The session underscored the importance of collaborative healthcare efforts between India and Nigeria.

Addressing the inaugural session, Mr. Abu Bakr, representing the Nigerian Student Association, highlighted the cultural similarities attracting Indian healthcare to Nigeria. He noted the increasing trend of Nigerian citizens seeking medical services in India, citing Nigeria's status as the most populous nation in Africa with a rapidly developing economy. Mr. Bakr emphasized the active engagement of Indian doctors in Nigeria and highlighted the immense scope for further collaboration.

Speakers at the session advocated for a holistic approach to healthcare, emphasizing the concept of "One Health." Dr. R.K. Srivastav, former Chairman of the Medical Council of India, stressed the need for various healthcare components to work together to serve patients better, highlighting advocacy as a crucial mechanism for fine-tuning the healthcare system.

Dr. Zoya Ali Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, emphasized the importance of collaboration in reaching all beneficiaries, particularly through local NGOs. Dr. Urvashi Prasad from NITI Ayog emphasized the alignment of local efforts with global goals and underscored the importance of technology in healthcare, especially in addressing issues like tuberculosis.

Dr. Rajiv Chhibber from Sahajanand Medical Technologies Ltd. championed the concept of 'One Health' and emphasized the importance of digital health in transforming healthcare delivery. He highlighted the AAA rule - Accessibility, Affordability, and Availability - as the pillars of healthcare and stressed the need for capacity building and technology access for all.

Healthcare luminaries from FICCI and ASSOCHAM also shared their insights at the Samvaad, emphasizing the importance of global collaboration in healthcare. The session highlighted the need for bridging healthcare gaps through initiatives like "One Health," leveraging technology, and fostering strategic partnerships. By working together, India and Nigeria can ensure a healthier future for their citizens and contribute to a more resilient global health infrastructure.
