AIIMS Unveils iOncology.ai Platform at Global IndiaAI Summit 2024
The Global IndiaAI Summit 2024, held at Bharat Mandapam on July 3-4, showcased significant advancements in artificial intelligence, including the debut of the iOncology.ai platform. Organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), this event highlighted the pioneering efforts of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, and CDAC-Pune in developing AI-based clinical decision support systems.
iOncology.ai, a collaborative project led by Dr. Ashok Sharma, Additional Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at AIIMS, and Ms. Lakshmi Panat from CDAC-Pune, represents a major breakthrough in healthcare technology. The platform aims to enhance cancer diagnosis and treatment by identifying subtle patterns indicative of cancer, providing clinicians with critical insights for timely and personalized treatment decisions.
During the summit, Dr. Sharma emphasized the potential of AI in healthcare, particularly in oncology, while also addressing challenges such as data privacy, ethical considerations, and the need for validation and regulatory approvals. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) recognized the team’s progress in deploying iOncology.ai across seven districts in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Gujarat. The platform’s integration with the Ayushmann Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) was noted as a significant achievement, enhancing the reach and effectiveness of AI-based clinical support.
iOncology.ai stands out as India’s first government-developed Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) platform. This innovation aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of leveraging technology to revolutionize healthcare in India. Attendees praised the platform’s user-friendly design, robust performance, and its potential to transform cancer diagnosis and treatment.
