The Climate Crisis is a Health Crisis: WHO Pushes for Urgent Action at "The Health Argument for Climate Action" Event

The same activities driving climate change are directly responsible for poor health outcomes, with a lack of progress in reducing emissions and adapting to the shifting environment endangering both human lives and the stability of national health systems.
In collaboration with the UAE and other partners, the World Health Organization (WHO) will host the event "The Health Argument for Climate Action" to underscore the vital connection between health and climate change. This event aims to shed light on the intertwined impacts of climate and health on various sectors, while highlighting the health benefits that can be achieved through strong climate action.
The event will serve as a platform to review key decisions made since COP28, outline health-related initiatives planned for COP29, and share aspirations for COP30. Importantly, it will call for heightened ambition, accelerated action, and increased financial support to protect health in the face of the climate crisis. It will also emphasize how climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience are not only essential for public health, but also for economic growth, national security, and controlling migration. The event will align these priorities with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other global initiatives, reinforcing the need for a unified, cross-sectoral approach to tackling the climate-health crisis.
