Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute Celebrates 28 Years of Excellence, Announces Strategic Expansion Across NCR

The Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC), a premier institution dedicated to cancer care and research, has announced its ambitious plans to expand its footprint across the National Capital Region (NCR) to provide high-quality cancer treatment to a larger population. The announcement was made during the Institute’s 28th anniversary celebration, themed "Beyond Excellence," which highlighted RGCIRC’s commitment to compassionate care, groundbreaking research, and community service over nearly three decades.

In his keynote address, Mr. Rakesh Chopra, Chairman of RGCIRC, reflected on the Institute’s journey and the values that have driven its success. “For close to three decades now, RGCIRC has excelled in the fields of cancer research, patient care, and its service to the community at large,” Mr. Chopra said. “RGCIRC’s success stems from a strong value system embedded in our DNA, which distinguishes us from other hospitals. We endeavor to serve people and alleviate their pain by adopting the most modern ways to fight cancer. The success at our Rohini campus is a signal from our patients that there is a huge need to serve more. Therefore, we are thinking about growth.”

Mr. Chopra further elaborated on the Institute’s strategic expansion plans, revealing that RGCIRC is currently exploring various localities in NCR for establishing new hospitals. “Apart from our existing facilities in Rohini and Niti Bagh, we are looking at other areas in NCR for expansion. We have engaged a large firm to assist us in this endeavor. Our approach will be calibrated, focusing on one location at a time, ensuring our values are deeply ingrained in the new hospital before moving on to the next,” he explained. The construction of the new hospital in Niti Bagh is progressing rapidly, with an expected completion timeline of two years, after which planning for additional locations will commence.

The Institute's philanthropic mission was also a central theme of the event. RGCIRC CEO, Mr. D.S. Negi, highlighted the Institute’s unwavering commitment to providing care for all, regardless of financial constraints. “The very motto of RGCIRC is that no one seeking cancer treatment is denied care due to lack of funds. With this focus, we spent about ₹59 crore last year on philanthropic work. Over the past decade, we have conducted more than 1,20,000 free screenings, identifying 5-6% of participants in the pre-cancer stage, saving more than 2,000 lives. Last year alone, we reached 24,000 screenings and continue to support vulnerable communities, including those in slum settlements, by offering free treatment and assistance,” shared Mr. Negi.

A highlight of the celebration was the unveiling of RGCIRC’s refreshed logo, symbolizing the Institute's ongoing evolution and commitment to innovation. Expressing his enthusiasm, Mr. Chopra remarked, “Our logo, originally designed 28 years ago, has been a testament to our journey. With advancements in technology and healthcare, it was time to refresh our brand identity to better reflect our core values of ethics, empathy, and excellence. In today’s digital age, communication plays a critical role in shaping perception. Our new logo encapsulates our mission to lead in oncology treatments, research, and patient care. This refreshed identity is not just a visual update but a reinforcement of our commitment to compassionate care.”

Dr. Sudhir Kumar Rawal, Medical Director and Chief of Genito-Uro Oncology Services, RGCIRC, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to partners, volunteers, and the Institute’s dedicated staff. “RGCIRC is recognized globally because of the unwavering dedication of our doctors, nurses, and support staff. Their collective efforts have enabled us to overcome challenges and continually strive for excellence. As we move forward, we must once again come together to extend our performance beyond excellence and remain at the forefront of cancer care innovation in the nation,” he stated.

The anniversary celebrations also featured cultural performances, a series of engaging activities, and awards to recognize outstanding contributions, reinforcing the sense of community and collaboration within the Institute. As RGCIRC enters its 29th year, it remains steadfast in its mission to provide world-class cancer care and drive advancements in the field of oncology.

With these new expansions and initiatives, RGCIRC is poised to solidify its position as a leading cancer care provider in India, ensuring more people across the region have access to top-quality treatment and compassionate care.
