PMBJP Hits Milestone of ₹1,000 Crore Sales in October 2024, Expands Access to Affordable Medicines

In a significant achievement, the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) has reached a sales milestone of ₹1,000 crores in October 2024, marking an impressive leap from the previous year when this figure was achieved in December 2023. This early accomplishment highlights the growing trust and reliance of the Indian population on affordable, high-quality medicines provided through the initiative.

The PMBJP’s success can be attributed to the unwavering support of citizens who are increasingly turning to the over 14,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country for their medical needs. These Kendras offer a wide range of medicines and surgical products at significantly reduced prices, helping to alleviate the financial burden of healthcare.

In September 2024 alone, the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), which oversees the PMBJP, recorded an all-time high of ₹200 crores in sales within a single month. This remarkable growth underscores PMBI's commitment to making healthcare more accessible by reducing out-of-pocket expenses for millions of people.

Over the past decade, the number of Jan Aushadhi Kendras has grown by more than 170 times—from just 80 in 2014 to over 14,000 today, covering nearly every district in India. In the next two years, the government plans to further expand this network to 25,000 Kendras, ensuring that affordable healthcare options are even more widely available.

The initiative's product basket includes 2,047 medicines and 300 surgical devices, addressing a broad spectrum of medical needs. These include critical therapeutic categories such as cardiovascular, anti-cancer, anti-diabetic, anti-infective, and anti-allergic medications, along with gastrointestinal treatments and nutraceuticals. With nearly 1 million people visiting these Kendras every day, the PMBJP has become a trusted healthcare provider for millions of families.

The PMBJP not only serves as a vital mechanism for reducing healthcare costs but also plays a critical role in promoting health equity across India. By ensuring that quality medicines are available at affordable prices, the initiative continues to empower communities and make healthcare accessible to all citizens. The record-breaking sales figures further emphasize the program’s success and its growing impact on the nation's health landscape.
