Junior Doctor dedicates her thesis to RG Kar Victim

A poignant homage by Dr. Rumelika Kumar, a junior doctor involved in the RG Kar Hospital protests, has gone popular on social media. Dr. Kumar dedicated her research thesis to her late colleague, Tilottoma, whose brutal murder in the hospital on the night of August 9 sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice nationwide.

Dr. Kumar's heartfelt tweet, which has received extensive attention on Twitter and other platforms, reads: "I got to conclude my thesis. Tilottoma didn't. The dreadful night of August 9th snatched her from us. That day left a lasting scar on my heart, as well as the hearts of the whole medical fraternity. Her death shook our country and rippled around the world. Since then, the campaign for justice, women's safety, and gender equality has intensified. I dedicate this thesis to Tilottoma. "The fight for her justice will continue."

According to media reports, the medical community and the general public have deeply resonated with Dr. Kumar's statements, uniting in solidarity to demand justice for Dr. Tilottoma's brutal murder. The terrible occurrence, which has also raised concerns about gender-based harassment and workplace safety for women, has sparked rallies across West Bengal, with junior physicians and healthcare professionals leading the way.

Dr. Kumar was a key participant in the Dharmatala hunger strike, during which younger doctors pledged to continue their demonstrations. She consistently assured the media that the campaign for Tilottoma's justice would persist until the guilty faced accountability. Rumelika, like other young doctors such as Debasish, has been on the front lines, campaigning for justice despite criticism and opposition from ruling party leaders.

The protesters stated on Monday that they will end their hunger strike in response to Tilottoma's parents' plea. However, they made it plain that their battle was far from finished. Dr. Kumar announced that a mass convention at RG Kar Hospital on Saturday would decide the next phase of their movement and develop a new campaign strategy.

Dr. Kumar's popular article has sparked debate regarding the safety of women in the workplace, particularly in high-stress settings such as hospitals. The RG Kar Hospital disaster has become a symbol of broader societal ills like gender inequity and violence, which continue to afflict many industries.

As the medical community and civil society continue to put pressure on authorities, Dr. Kumar's dedication to her deceased colleague serves as a strong reminder of Tilottoma's death's long-term impact on the battle for justice and equality.

Dr. Kumar's post has sparked numerous replies on Twitter. A fellow colleague, Dr. Anusmita Mukherjee, tweeted Dr. Kumar's viral remark, stating, "Dr. Rumelika Kumar dedicated her thesis to Tilottoma." She wrote, "I got to finish my thesis." Tilottoma didn't. I dedicate this thesis to Tilottoma, a valued colleague and sister. As I travel this long and difficult road, I carry her memory with me—a constant reminder of the war we must fight in her honour." This emotion has resonated with thousands, heightening the desire for justice and reform in the public health sector in the state.
