BM Birla Heart Hospital Hosts Intravascular Ultrasound Workshop Led by Renowned Cardiologist

BM Birla Heart Hospital organised a knowledge-sharing session and best practices workshop on Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), led by the esteemed Dr. Sanjog Kalra, a globally recognized Interventional Cardiologist from Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Toronto General Hospital. The workshop aimed to enhance patient outcomes through advanced technologies and provide precise treatment for individuals with complex coronary diseases.

Dr. Kalra, known for his expertise in complex coronary revascularization and mechanical circulatory support, conducted an IVUS guided complex Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty (PTCA) workshop. Throughout the session, Dr. Kalra showcased his exceptional skill and knowledge by overseeing five intricate cases alongside BM Birla Heart Hospital's interventional cardiologists.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Kalra emphasized the importance of IVUS in achieving optimal outcomes for patients with complex coronary diseases. He highlighted IVUS as a widely utilized technique worldwide for conditions like bifurcation lesions and completely blocked arteries, offering evidence-based data for improved diagnosis and treatment.

IVUS, a cutting-edge medical imaging technique, utilizes a specially designed catheter with an ultrasound transducer to provide high-resolution images of coronary arteries. This technology offers critical insights beyond traditional angiography, aiding in assessing disease severity and guiding percutaneous coronary interventions, ultimately leading to enhanced patient outcomes and reduced complications.

Dr. Anil Mishra, Consultant - Interventional Cardiology at BM Birla Heart Hospital, expressed gratitude for the hospital's existing use of IVUS and stressed the importance of staying updated with the latest technologies to deliver optimal medical care to patients.

According to Dr. Dhiman Kahali, Consultant – Interventional Cardiology, IVUS is patient-friendly and provides valuable data supported by evidence, offering more information than complex PCI procedures.

Supratik De Sarkar, Unit Head of BM Birla Heart Hospital, highlighted the hospital's commitment to evidence-based practices and quality clinical outcomes. He noted that the acquisition of IVUS technology has significantly contributed to delivering the best results for patients with complex coronary diseases.

The collaborative environment fostered by Dr. Kalra and the hospital's cardiologists ensured a dynamic and enriching learning experience for all involved. BM Birla Heart Hospital continues to prioritize the adoption of the latest technologies to ensure the highest standards of patient satisfaction and quality cardiac care for individuals with complex cardiac ailments.
