Safdarjung Hospital Opens New Crèche Facility to Support Healthcare Workers

Safdarjung Hospital celebrated a milestone today with the inauguration of a brand-new crèche facility designed to provide quality childcare services for the hospital’s dedicated staff. The event was marked by the presence of distinguished guests, including Madam Punya Salila Srivastava, Secretary of Health and Family Welfare, who officially opened the facility, and Madam Roli Singh, Additional Secretary, as the Special Guest.

In her opening address, Madam Srivastava emphasized the significance of this new initiative: "The launch of this crèche is more than just an added convenience; it's a crucial step toward supporting our healthcare workers. By ensuring their children are cared for in a safe and nurturing environment, we’re allowing them to fully concentrate on their critical roles in patient care. This facility is an investment in the well-being of our staff and, ultimately, in the quality of care our patients receive."

Echoing this sentiment, Madam Roli Singh highlighted the broader impact of the initiative: "This aligns with our government's ongoing efforts to support healthcare workers and their families. The crèche will alleviate the stress working parents often face, helping them balance their professional responsibilities with their family lives. Safdarjung Hospital’s commitment to its staff is truly commendable."

Hospital leadership was also present to share their enthusiasm. Dr. Vandana Talwar, Medical Superintendent, expressed her pride in the new facility: "This crèche addresses a long-standing need among our staff. By providing this support, we hope to boost job satisfaction and productivity, which will naturally lead to better patient care."

Dr. Geetika Khanna, Principal of VMMC, spoke about the educational benefits of the crèche: "This is more than just a childcare center—it’s an early learning space where children can engage in activities that foster social and cognitive development. Knowing that their children are close by and in capable hands will give our staff tremendous peace of mind."

Dr. Vandana Chakravarty, Senior CMO In-charge of the Crèche, detailed the facility’s features: "Our crèche can accommodate up to 15 children, from ages six months to six years. It will operate during hospital shifts, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and we have trained staff, age-appropriate toys, and a range of educational materials. Safety is paramount, with rigorous hygiene protocols and security measures in place. We will also conduct regular health check-ups for the children."

A key contributor to the facility’s success is the Greater Kailash Lions Service Foundation, which generously donated essential equipment, including furniture, toys, and educational materials. Their involvement has been integral to the project’s realization.

The crèche has been set up following guidelines from the Ministry of Women and Child Welfare, ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for children. This initiative underscores Safdarjung Hospital’s commitment to its staff, ensuring they have the support they need to continue providing exceptional care to their patients.

The launch of this crèche facility marks a positive shift toward a more supportive and balanced work environment, reflecting the hospital’s focus on staff well-being and patient care excellence.
